Devizes to Westminster – From 1948 to 2012
 
Over Easter in 2012, hundreds of kayakers and canoeists will pit their skill, physical and mental stamina and determination against one of the toughest endurance events in the world – the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon.
The 125-mile course places the highest demands on individuals, boats and support crews. Senior Doubles have the challenge of completing the course non-stop, continuing through the dark of night to finish by Westminster Bridge on Easter Sunday. Other teams have the challenge of breaking the course down over four days, dragging weary bodies into boats for the next stage of the demanding race.
It remains one of the toughest challenges in amateur sport. If you're taking part, good luck. If you're supporting, take care of your team, yourselves and be respectful of the people and places you encounter along the course.
And if you're looking to find out what it’s about, we always need volunteers. It’s a great way to see the race and essential to make the event work. If you can spare time over Easter Weekend or throughout the year, please get in touch.

  • Protecting the Course

    With the Waterside Series approaching, DW are working with Newbury CC to do our best to make sure we all look after the course and, particularly for Waterside A, the residents of Great Bedwyn. You may be visiting for one day, they live their all year and normally enjoy the relative quiet of the area. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE be considerate in every possible way. And encourage others to be as well. Thanks.

  • Race Entry Deadline

    Deadline for entries to this year's race is Sunday 25th March (two weeks before the race). So while you're training and carefully planning your race preparations, get the admin done and complete your Entry Form at the earliest opportunity.

  • Six Months Countdown

    On Good Friday, 6 April 2012, the Devizes Westminster International Canoe Marathon 2012 begins. You have six months from today to prepare yourself, your boat, your kit, your support crew and, in many cases, your partner to take on the challenge.Entries will open on 1 December.Good luck and enjoy the training.

    Congratulations to David Walliams for swimming the length of the River Thames. We, like him, appreciate the challenges presented by this stretch of river.
