Devizes to Westminster – From 1948 to 2012
| |
| Over Easter in 2012, hundreds of kayakers and canoeists will pit their skill, physical and mental stamina and determination against one of the toughest endurance events in the world – the Devizes to Westminster International Canoe Marathon. |
| The 125-mile course places the highest demands on individuals, boats and support crews. Senior Doubles have the challenge of completing the course non-stop, continuing through the dark of night to finish by Westminster Bridge on Easter Sunday. Other teams have the challenge of breaking the course down over four days, dragging weary bodies into boats for the next stage of the demanding race. |
| It remains one of the toughest challenges in amateur sport. If you're taking part, good luck. If you're supporting, take care of your team, yourselves and be respectful of the people and places you encounter along the course. |
And if you're looking to find out what it’s about, we always need volunteers. It’s a great way to see the race and essential to make the event work. If you can spare time over Easter Weekend or throughout the year, please get in touch.
DW NEEDS YOU. |
